What is Subcision?

Subcision is a minor surgical procedure used for treating depressed scar, especially rolling scars using a special subcision needle.

There are many different types of Subcision’s needle available in the market. The needle that we use in our clinic is a Nokor needle.

How does Nokor needle work?

The treatment area is cleansed and anaesthetic cream is applied prior to the procedure to reduce the discomfort during the subcision. We use the Nokor needle to puncture the skin adjacent to the depressed scar and advance through the dermis over the scar and move back and forth and horizontally. The sharp edge of the needle is used to break the fibrotic strands that are tethering the skin to the underlying tissue. The release of the fibrotic strands and new collagen deposition caused by wound healing leads to improvement of the scar.

What is the indication for the Subcision?

  • Acne Scar
  • Chicken-pox Scar
  • Surgical Scar
  • Traumatic Scar
  • Cellulite Dimples

Is Subcision procedure safe?

Subcision is a safe, simple technique that provides significant long-term improvement in the “rolling scars” of selected patients. It can be safely and easily combined with other treatments for acne scars.

    Side Effect of Subcision

Some patients may experience bruises and temporary needle marks or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation after the treatment.

      How is Subcision performed?

Subcision is performed using a special Nokor needle inserted through a puncture in the skin surface. The sharp edge of the needle is used to break fibrotic strands that are tethering the scar to the underlying tissue.

How many treatment sessions are needed?

The number of subcision required to correct a depression will depend on the type, location, severity of depression, and intensity of treatment. Three to six visits suffice for the majority of cases of moderate scarring. Intervals of at least one month in-between treatments are generally recommended.

          How much does Subcision cost?

The price varies according to the condition and if in combination together with other scar treatment. It is advisable to come to our clinic for a consultation with our doctor first.
